End of week 1 of the June yoga challenge

I did manage to do yoga every day from Tuesday to Sunday.

  • Tuesday – Full Intermediate series
  • Wednesday – Full Primary series
  • Thursday – Full Intermedaite series
  • Friday – Full Primary series
  • Saturday – rest day
  • Sunday – Half Intermediate series

Sunday was the most challenging day

During the week, I do my yoga practice at 6:30 in the morning. On Sunday I do my practice in the afternoon before the evening classes at the studio. This Sunday, Shirley, Georgina and the car were gone to a Baby shower and were later than expected getting home. My alternate plan was to ride my bicycle to the studio. This plan did not work because it was raining on Sunday afternoon. As a result of all of this, I was late getting to the studio and only had enough time to get in 1/2 of the Intermediate series. This was much better than doing the minimum practice of 5 Sun Salute A, 5 Sun Salute B, bound lotus, lotus and Corpse pose.

Big Event

I was able to bind in Baddha Padmasana for the first time in 12 years on Thursday. I was not able to bind in the pose the next day and this did not surprise me. This has happened to me and other people in the past. One day you are suddenly more flexible and able to move further in a particular pose. The following day, the body has some residule fear about going that far into the pose again. There is fear of being injuried. It takes a few more repetitions of the pose for the mind and body to become used to the idea of going that far into the pose again. I was able to bind in the pose again on Sunday with a fair bit of struggle. Maybe next time it will be easier. We will see.

This week

Tuesday will be a bit of a challenge. I have an early morning workshop to go to. It starts at 8:30 am and my practice typically finishes about 8:00 am. I should have enough time to get to the workshop unless some sort of Chaos takes hold and delays my practice.

Stay tuned for the next update.
