Stories from the Summer Pot Luck

There are two stories to be told.

Where have you been?

One of our members had not been to the studio since April of this year.  She recently started to attend classes again at the studio and at the Pot Luck she explained what had happened.

She had been given a gift certificate of 20 classes to a yoga studio in Halifax for Christmas.  She had not been using the classes from the gift certificate since she was attending classes at our studio and enjoying them very much.

She discovered that her gift certificate was about to expire and that she would be losing the 17 classes that were left.  She talked to the studio and they would not extend the expiry date of the gift certificate.  She had about 6 weeks to use the classes or lose them.  So she was attending classes at this other studio and taking friends with her so she could use them up before they expired.

She did manage to finish all of the classes on the gift certificate and has returned to our studio.

She found the classes at the other studio much more crowded than at our studio.  People were packed in very close together.  Also there was no air conditioning.  This made it very hot and uncomfortable.

She is very happy to be back at our studio with lots of room between students and air conditioning.

Where was my teacher?

My teacher had promised to come to the Pot Luck and was looking forward to it.  We had talked about it earlier in the week and she was definitely coming, however several events occurred that prevented her from attending.

A stray dog, a very well taken care of Labrador Retriever, showed up on her door step earlier that week.  She took the dog in rather than let the animal control people take it away.  It was obvious that the dog was well taken care and much loved.

My teacher already has a dog of her own and the stray was causing a bit of stress with the other much older dog.  She normally takes her dog to the lake everyday for a swim and if she ended up keeping this dog she feared that she would have to get a larger car to more comfortably transport them.  She currently has a Beetle.  The new dog was causing a bit of stress with her as well.

She spent most of the week searching for the owner. She had contacted the vets in the area and the veterinary hospitals.  She left photos and contact information with them in case the  owner contacted them looking for the dog.

On Saturday (the day of the pot luck),  the owner contacted my teacher and they were able to get the dog returned.  A successful conclusion to this adventure.

Then it was off to her store for the rest of the day.  By the time she closed the store and the relief from finding the owner for the stray dog she completely forgot about the Pot Luck.

It was about 9 that night that she realized that the Pot Luck was scheduled for that day and that they had missed it.

She was really upset and contacted me immediately that she realized that she had missed it.

She promises that she will be at the next pot luck.  Hopefully no stray dogs will come to visit her.
