Going to Purple Valley Retreat Week one of preparation

There are three of us from Sunrise Yoga studio (Sarah, Vanessa and myself) that are planning on going to Purple Valley Retreat in Goa.  Sarah has been the instigator to get the rest of us moving.

I had been planning on going to Purple Valley one of these years to study with Nancy Gilgoff.  My teacher, Jody, has been studying with Nancy for the past several years and has spoken very highly of her.  Nancy was the first teacher that was able to help Jody with her back problems and she is very pleased with the results.

I had been planning on resuming my travels for week long teacher’s training, once the studio become profitable and the income from the studio could support the expense of the trip and the training.  The studio is now profitable enough, in its 5th year, that I can now go.  Originally I thought that I would go to a week long training with Nancy in the United States this summer.

My teacher and Sarah have organized a group of 7 people to go to Purple Valley in January.  Jody has herself and 3 others coming from her studio and Sarah has herself and 2 others coming from Sunrise Yoga studio.  Jody has organized a charter from London England to Purple Valley and we have all managed to book a seat on it.

I talked to Shirley to see if she was interested in traveling with me and taking a two week vacation in India away from the winter cold.  She has decided not to come along.  She finds it kind of boring while I am at the yoga functions and she is just sitting around.  She also declined to go to Scotland and visit with her friend there.  We briefly discussed having her visit our daughter in Japan, but again she decided to stay home.  She is planning on meeting our daughter in Toronto when she is returning from Japan in March.

This week I have been busy:

  • I booked the charter from London to Goa
  • I have asked a travel agent to get me to London and back to met the charter.
  • I have completed the Passport application.  My current passport expired several years ago.
  • I got my passport photos
  • I did some research on the resort, and other peoples comments about practicing with Nancy at the resort.
  • I added Sarah and Vanessa as authors for this blog.  They will be adding there own entries over time.

And here is the partial list of things that I need to do.

  • Get passport
  • Talk to the doctor about vaccinations and other precautions
  • Talk to Canadian Blood Services about the impact of going to India on my blood donations.  I donate platelets every two weeks.
  • Arrange for teachers for the studio while Sarah and I are away.  Sarah is pretty sure that she has a teacher for her classes.
  • Get the flight booked from Halifax to London and back to met the charter
  • Arrange for a hotel in Goa for the Saturday night after the training is over.  We leave on Sunday to return to London.
  • Get a wall plug converter.  I am planning on taking the laptop and the plugs are different from the ones in North America.  The laptop will handle 220V power but the plug is wrong.
  • Get a bunch of Rupees to pay for taxis, Internet Cafe access, treats, gifts and other stuff.
  • I need to get a bathing suit.
  • Probably should have a travel alarm clock.

That’s the list for now.  I will add it as I think of other things.
