Use the Good Vibration process to be on call during yoga class.

Sarah, Bob’s wife is pregnant and she should be having the baby any day now. Bob has agreed to always have his cell phone on and with him at all times. She is very relieved that she will be able to reach Bob when it is time to go the hospital to have the baby.

Now Bob has a problem!

Bob is planning on going to yoga class tonight. The yoga studio has a policy of no electronic devices in the practice room, but he needs to bring his with him. He can’t be out of touch for an hour and a half. If Sarah has to go to the hospital and she can not get a hold of him for over an hour his life will be hell and he might miss the birth of their baby.

What is Bob to do? Should he sneak in with his cell phone on or should he talk the teacher about what he should do?

It is always best to keep everyone informed about what is going. Bob wisely decides to talk to the teacher and found out how best to handle this unique situation.

The teacher introduces Bob to the Good Vibrations process.

What is the Good Vibration Process

The Good Vibrations process consists of four steps. By following this process Bob will be able to attend yoga class and still be available for his wife to contact him should the baby decide to be born right NOW:

  1. Involve the teacher
  2. Get your exit plan in place
  3. Enable your Good Vibrations
  4. Doing the Get up and Go

All of these steps in the Good Vibration process are designed to minimize the disruption to the yoga class should the baby decide to arrive during the class. The first step is to talk to the teacher.

Step 1 – Involve your teacher

Bob needs to talk the teacher and explain the situation. The teacher will explain the steps of the Good Vibration process that Bob should take in order to minimize the disruption to the class.

Bob also needs to let the people that are setup near him know what is going on and that he may need to leave the class suddenly.

Letting the teacher and the people around him know what is going on will help to reduce any distraction and concern on their part if he was to suddenly get up an leave during the class.

To continue with the Good Vibration process and reduce potential disruption even further, Bob needs to move on to Step 2 and setup near the door.

Step 2 – Get your exit plan in place

Should Bob actually have to leave during the class, he needs to setup his mat and props as close to the door as possible. He will disrupt less people if all he has to do is pick up his mat and props and then take a step or two to leave the room.

If Bob is using props from the studio rather than his own, he needs to ask one of the people near him to put them away after class if he should have to leave.

This has two benefits: It will take Bob less time to leave the room; and he will not be disturbing people as he walks around the room returning props to their proper place.

Once Bob is setup near the door there is one last thing that he needs to do before class starts. To further reduce disruption Bob needs to set his cell phone up properly.

Step 3 – Enable your Good Vibrations

Bob needs to set his cell phone on vibrate or silent mode. There is nothing more disruptive than to have a very melodic ring tone go off during class. So set the cell phone to vibrate. Not only that, Bob should also set the cell phone on a foam block to make the sound even quieter. A cell phone vibrating on a hard wood floor is very noisy. Putting it on a foam block will make it almost silent.

Bob has followed the first three steps of the Good Vibration process. The last step will only happen if the baby should decide to be born and Sarah calls him. When the cell phone starts to vibrate quietly on the foam block it will be time for Bob to take the final step, which is to leave quietly.

Step 4 – Doing the Get up and Go

When the cell phone goes off, Bob needs to pack up his yoga mat and props quietly and leave the room. The yoga studio props that he has will be put away for him after the class is over. Remember that he made arrangements for this in an early step.

He should not apologize to the people around him. They already know that he may be leaving class suddenly and will not be surprised or upset when he gets up and goes.

This completes all of the steps of the Good Vibrations process. Hopefully Sarah gives birth to a healthy baby and Bob gets home in time to take her to the hospital.

Remember the Good Vibration Process

If you are on call and you are going to yoga class you need to follow the steps of the Good Vibration process so that you and everyone else in the class will have a satisfying yoga class.

  1. Tell the teacher and the people around you
  2. Set up near the door
  3. Set your phone on vibrate
  4. Leave quietly

These four steps will cause the least disruption and Bob will be welcomed back to the class after the baby is born.
