Pattabhi Jois dies at 94

Pattabhi Jois

Pattabhi Jois

Sri K. Pattabhi Jois the guru of Ashtanga Yoga died today, Monday May 18 at 2:30 pm (Indian Standard Time).

Pattabhi Jois was the first and only guru of the Ashtanga style of yoga.  He taught David Williams the practice in 1974.  David Williams was the first Western to learn the practice and from there it spread around the world.  Many people are much better off today because of the unique features of the Ashtanga yoga practice.

I will be hosting a complimentary Ashtanga Yoga practice at the Studio on Friday May 22 from 6:30 to 7:45.  This practice will be followed by a reception from 7:45 to 9:00 pm.

I had the great privilege to attend a week long workshop lead by Pattabhi Jois in October of 2002 in Montreal.  He was 87 at the time and I was impressed by his powerful personality, strength and vitality.  He moved throughout the room adjusting everybody he could reach.  I even got adjusted by him twice.

He will be greatly missed.

Please let me know if you will be attending this event.

See you at the Studio on Friday May  22
