How to quickly return to your pre pregnancy weight and shape

Mom and Baby playing

Mom and Baby playing

Finally the pregnancy is over. You are home with your baby and the pregnancy is behind you.  It’s a great time to share with your baby and to start to learn and grow together and build that special bond.

Along with this time of growth and sharing it would be nice to be able to start getting your own body back into its prepregnancy shape and weight.  But the baby is so young it will be difficult to leave them behind and go to a class.  Besides it is really difficult to find a babysitter for a really young baby.

The Moms & Babies yoga class at Sunrise Yoga is designed to help you to rapidly return to your pre pregnancy weight and shape and best of all you can bring your baby with you to the class.  There is no need to find a baby sitter.

What is the Moms & Babies class

Moms & Babies yoga is a gentle way to help your body start the recovery from childbirth while bonding and having fun with your baby. It is an opportunity for you to connect with other mothers and share the experience and insights of raising a new child.

In this baby friendly classes, special attention is placed on rebuilding the core strength of your back, abdomen, and pelvic floor, as well as relieving tension in your neck, and shoulders due to lifting, carrying and nursing your baby.

When is the Moms & Babies class

This class is usually offered during the day.

Where is the Moms & Babies class

When we offer the class it is at Sunrise Yoga Studio 505 – 73 Tacoma Drive in Dartmouth Nova Scotia.

How does the Moms & Babies class work

This type of yoga is designed specifically to allow mothers and children to exercise while strengthening the bond between them. It focuses on strengthening the core muscles of the abdomen and lower back, which women often have trouble retraining after a pregnancy.  Benefits of these exercises for new mothers also include an opportunity for social interaction, and, unlike working out at a more traditional gym, these classes provide an environment sensitive to the needs of a mother with small children.

You and your baby work together doing the yoga poses.  Your baby is on a blanket beside your yoga mat.  You can keep in constant contact with your baby while you do your yoga poses.  There are segments through out the class when you incorporate your baby into a pose.

How much is the Moms & Babies class

This is a session based class that is available in a block of 8 weeks with one class per week.  The cost for the eight week session is $108.

How old can my baby be

Moms with babies from 4 weeks old to crawling are welcome in the class.

  • My baby is upset. From time to time your baby will become upset and start to cry.  Again this class is for you and your baby.  Take the time you need to soothe your baby.  We also have a seperate room if you feel the need to leave the class room to soothe your baby.
  • My baby is asleep. These classes are designed for you and your baby.  If your baby falls asleep, make them comfortable and continue on with your class.
  • I am so weak. Child birth can be a draining experience.  It take a while for your body to return to its pre pregnancy stenght and ability.  A yoga practice helps you to learn to accept where your body’s ability is now.  A yoga practice will help you to regain the strenght you had before with the support of the other moms in the class.
  • I feel like a failure. I was not able to do any of the yoga poses because I had to pay attention to my baby all of the time.  Check with the other moms in the class and you will find that they have all had classes like that.  Despite not being able to do any of the yoga poses, just getting out the class and being with the other moms and babies is a big benefit all by itself.  There will be other classes when everything will go smoothly and you will be able to offer support to the other moms and their babies.
  • I don’t know yoga. No previous yoga experience is required. The teacher will be able to guide you through the yoga poses and offer you alternatives that will accomodate the condition of your body.
