New Outside Classes are coming in 2024

Three outside classes coming this summer

May 10, 2024. Important update to the outside classes.

Thursday evening outside class has been cancelled. My wife reminded me that Thursday is our date night.

Last year’s outside classes were offered until the end of January 2024. Boy was it chilly doing those last few classes.

The weather is getting warmer now and soon it will be warm enough to resume our outside classes. Once the temperature gets above 15 C we will be ready to go. The weather prediction is that that should happen by the middle of May.

Currently I am teaching online classes on Zoom and Facebook live on Wednesday and Saturday. I am also teaching in person classes at the North Woodside Community Centre (NWCC) on Monday evening.

I am also teaching a private class at the Parkland Senior residences on Friday morning.

What do these outside classes include

I am teaching a combination of Tai Chi and Qigong that is suitable for beginners as well as experienced people.

What makes it suitable for a beginner is the complexity of the movements that are being taught.

Why should I do a class outside

Meeting outside gives an opportunity to meet and practice together.

Being in person enhances our learning experience.

It is easier for you to see what the teacher is doing.

The teacher can more readily see what you are doing and offer corrections if necessary.

It gives us a chance to be outside in a natural setting.

When are these classes going to start

I am planning on offering three two outside classes a week:

  1. Monday evening from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the park behind North Woodside community centre (NWCC). I am currently teaching this class inside. The outside class starts the end of June.
  2. Thursday evening from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at DeWolf Park in Bedford. This class starts the middle of May.
  3. Sunday afternoon from 2 pm to 3 pm at Birches Park in Portland Estates. This class starts the middle of May.

Where are these classes being held

Monday 6:30 pm

The Monday evening class is at the park behind the North Woodside Community Centre (NWCC) at 230 Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.

Thursday 6:30 pm

The Thursday evening class is at the DeWolf park at 150 Waterfront Drive in Bedford.

Sunday 2:00 pm

The Sunday afternoon class is at the Birches Park at 47 Portland Estates Boulevard West in Dartmouth.

How much do the classes cost

The cost is $32 a month for one or all of them. You can pay by cash, cheque, PayPal or e-transfer.

Do I need special clothes

To get the most benefit from these classes you should wear comfortable clothing that lets you move easily in all directions. We will be spending all of our time standing up.

You do not need to buy special “Tai Chi – Qigong” clothes.

But I need to sit down

If you have to sit down for some or all of the class you will need to bring your own chair.

The ideal chair is one that has a flat seat with the legs coming straight down from the seat to the ground at the front and back of the seat. Have a look at this video to get an idea of what an ideal chair looks like.

What if an exercise hurts

We all have various limitations that we bring to our practice everyday. And some days they will be different than other days.

If a exercise hurts when you move a certain way then you need to modify or skip that particular exercise. Check with the teacher to find out how you can continue.

What happens when it rains

We do not practice in the rain. Try and come to one of the other classes to continue your Qigong practice.

In addition to the outside classes we also have live classes on Zoom and Facebook live as well as a large number of classes on YouTube.

Next Steps
